Egyptian Museum & the Royal Mummies — Overview
The Egyptian Museum in Cairo, overlooking Tahrir Square, opened its doors in 1902 and remains one of the most important museums of ancient art in the world. Behind its distinctive terracotta-and-cream façade lies one of the largest collections of pharaonic antiquities ever assembled — well over a hundred thousand objects spanning some five thousand years, from the Old Kingdom to the Graeco-Roman period.
For generations it has been the home of the golden treasures of Tutankhamun and of the royal mummies of Egypt's greatest pharaohs, alongside colossal royal statues, exquisite jewellery, painted coffins, papyri and the everyday objects that bring life on the ancient Nile vividly to life. A guided visit turns rooms of glass cases into a connected story, so a few focused hours reveal the pieces that matter most.
Cool, indoors and endlessly rich, the museum is the perfect complement to the open-air monuments of Giza — and for many travellers it is the single best introduction to the civilisation of ancient Egypt.

The private format lets your guide tailor the route to what interests you most and move past what doesn't.
